Navigating Friendship in LA & My Secrets A Perfect Girl Gang

If I have learned anything growing up it’s that you can accomplish nothing on your own. We all need some sort of support system backing us - telling us the honest truth and drinking wine all at the same time! Girl friends are some of the most important people that every woman should cherish and never let go. I have been lucky enough to have some of the best girlfriends a girl could ever hope for since before I can remember. However, in the same breath I have learned that not everyone wants to be your friend, some people want to be your friend for the wrong reason and some people are just your friend out of convenience. The process of finding your tribe can be one of the most difficult and emotionally draining parts of life, but when you find that perfect combination of babes be sure to never let them go.

I remember when I first moved to LA I was completely lost on how to find friends like the ones I had back home. I moved here not knowing anyone, into an apartment with a someone that I had only emailed back and fourth a couple of times and thousands of miles aways from home. I had no idea if anyone would like me and if anyone would even want to be my friend. I was confident that I could make friends but was always told about how cut-throat Los Angeles could be, so I was on the immediate defense. For a girl that had the same best friends since diapers (literally), this was a huge change!! I remember the day I dropped my dad off at the airport to go back "home" after helping me get settled in and feeling so alone. I had no idea if I had what it took to be successful in this city but I knew I was damn sure going to give it my best. I was super lucky because I was part of an amazing internship program with 49 other college students from across the country in the same situation that I was in. I was able to start building my tribe of amazing women from there, became best friends with my roommate (the one I didn't know before moving in) and went to every event I was invited to - meeting so many incredible people along the way. I learned to never listen to anyone with negative views on life, friendship and work and to only surround myself with people that looked at life the same way I did. I surrounded myself with women (and some men) that were fierce, motivated and passionate about life and weren't afraid of a good happy hour :)

Fast forward to now: Now I have the most incredible group of women who empower me to be a better person everyday. They encourage me to keep fighting for better and force me to get out of my comfort zone. I feel so lucky to be apart of their lives and learn from them every day. The cool part is that now I actually have a job at Bumble where I get to bring people together to craft their perfect gang of fierce, motivated and passionate babes too (me "working" in the picture above)! It is seriously a dream. The best advice I always give to people trying to navigate finding their tribe is to support other / feel supported and always be willing to grow. I cannot count the number of friendships I have made by just getting out of my comfort zone and saying hello. Every single person has something to offer, so be sure to build your tribe as diverse as possible. The more points of view you have in life, the better.

Pro Tip - Download Bumble if you need a little boost:

The Self-Love, Non-Negotiable Ritual That Can Change Your Life

Can I be honest? Adulting is hard - really fun, but not a walk in the park. I think it is funny to even consider yourself as such a thing as an "adult" - don't you? If I have learned anything about myself during this part of my life, it is to just ride the waves and enjoy what life has to offer. I have come to realize that although it is easy to get caught up in what we are supposed to be doing (drowning in a wave 3 ft under, gasping for air), that we lose sight in what we actually want (riding the surf).

The moment that you start living your life for you and not for what someone else believes that you should be - this is where your life will drastically change and you will be riding high on cloud nine and oozing with confidence in yourself.

I have always been a pretty confident person, but honestly there are some times that I felt like the least confident person in the world. I recently went through one of those moments and felt like I could not get out. I was feeling like I wasn't keeping up with what other people where expecting of me. I started to feel like there was nothing that I could do right because everything felt so wrong! I was relying on other people to make me feel confident and not even looking for it within myself. WRONG MOVE, Priscilla! After this most recent "episode" I think I came to a life changing moment. I realized the power of me. I am not even kidding when I say it was like a lightbulb just went off in my brain. I realized that the only person that is in a 100% control of my life is ME! I realized that only I am in control of the way things make me feel and only I am responsible for the situations that I am in. I realized that  I had to give myself back the control in my life, there was no other option. Once I did, I was immediately rewarded with the results (life changing). I had to dig deep and realized how awesome I truly am. Not in a cocky way or anything but in a way of self love. I ridded myself of any negative energy that came my way and started to only let positive energy into my life. It is so freeing and I truly feel as though I am glowing from the inside out.
Image may contain: text

Sounds fantastic, right? Well I am here to tell you that you can feel this same way!! Yes, YOU! It is time to take back control from whoever holds control over you - whom ever that may be! It is time to take away the power that you have given them and collect it back for yourself. It is time to give yourself 100% - you deserve this! When you give yourself this power back you will have no other choice but to feel confident in every decision you make - I promise! Confident people, attract confident people and from there amazing things can happen.

There is nothing more powerful than believing in yourself. I mean, if you don't believe in yourself who else will?

How To Have The PERFECT #Galpal weekend

Let's face it - life can get pretty hectic and before we realize it we are just moving through the motions without enjoying the most important things around us. That is why it is so important to sometimes check yourself and make sure YOU are the priority in your life! This means that you have to have balance between the things that you simply want and desperately need.

One of the ways to find balance: Surround yourself with people that you admire and trust. I can honestly say that I am super lucky to have a solid group of gal pals that I not only admire, but trust whole-heartedly that they want whats best for me. I am one lucky gal in this department and do not take it for granted (I have had my fair share of bad apples in the past). That is why when a #GalPals weekend comes knocking, I don't say no....especially one of this caliber...

I spent the weekend at the Orlando Hotel in the heart of Los Angeles for an all girls slumber party staycation in honor of my Boss Babe friend, Kinya. We had an incredible time and it was sooooo what this girl needed. I cannot take the credit for coming up with these genius #GalPal weekend essentials, but will share with you what The Orlando Hotel put together to make our stay unforgettable and flawless, so you can do the same with your gal pals....

When we first arrived for the weekend they had every detail laid out to perfection. Seriously, it was so cute. We stayed in the entertainers suite that was perfect for a cute boutique hotel like The Orlando. It had the best balcony that overlooked 3rd street and plenty of room for all us girls to just chill out and relax. We had dinner at the BEST Mediterranean restaurant I think I have ever had, Cleo - located just off of the lobby of the hotel. The food is served family style with handcrafted cocktails that are to die for! After we finished dinner, we got snuggled up in our pajamas from Bed Head Pajamas and watched the Oscar nominated movie - I Tonya (so good!). The next morning we woke up and worked off all the calories we took in the night before (mine mostly from the naan bread and drinks) at Bar Method Los Angeles. This was my first time taking the class and I gotta say...it kicked my butt!! It was okay tough because after we were treated to mimosas and breakfast before we headed out and back to reality...

The GAL PAL PJ PARTY Package Includes:

The package for four starts at $650 for a deluxe king and connecting queen – a great value at $162.50 per girlfriend – and $899 for a suite and connecting room. Additional nights are $450 and $650 respectively. The package can be booked online or by calling 1-800.62.HOTEL.
  • One night’s accommodation for up to four friends in a two-bedroom suite.
  • Four bespoke cocktails at Cleo -- with names like “A Night in Marrakesh.”
  • 15% discount at Bed Head Pajamas – with an array of themes like “Champagne & Strawberries,” “Sweet Tooth”and “Bold Strokes.”
  • In-room Beauty Goodie Bag with Face Masks from Credo Organic Beauty & Samples of the top three most popular scents from Le Labo Perfume plus a certify for 15% off a purchase.
  • Four, One-Hour Bar Method Classes
  • Four, $50. 00 gift certificates for Talisman Necklaces at Pyrrha

Don't be afraid to treat yourself, because you (of all people) deserve it!

The Story of How I Met Colton

My boyfriend, best friend, secret keeper, wine pourer, travel buddy, comfort zone, grill master & my rock. Colton is someone who has been by my side through some of the absolute best and worst times of my life. He is everything I could ever hope for in a partner and to think it all started with me saying “I’m gonna marry that man some day”.

Our “Love” story:
It all started on the first day of our college orientation freshman year of college. We both were in the same orientation group, which were small with only about 20-25 people per group. I remember seeing him and immediately knowing that I had to meet him. We all know I am a person that is not shy to do something like this. I walked straight up to him and murmured something about his tattoo just to get the conversation started. Let’s just say that was a good start. From there we were inseparable for the remainder of orientation. I even told my girlfriend, “I am going to marry that man” and met his MOM!!

Now we didn’t immediately start dating but did stay friends for the first year of school. I think this was such a blessing and what we needed to build a strong relationship. The summer after our freshman year he invited me to go to visit his hometown with him for the weekend. He is from a very small east Texas town and I am from the city so I was eager to see how he grew up (plus a summer weekend hanging out with a cute boy is a plus)!! The first night he gave me the grand 15 minute tour of his town, his mom cooked us a good ol’ southern dinner and Colton made a beautiful bonfire outside (part of his master plan)accompanied with a full bottle of Malibu rum....(cheers to that)

That night we kissed and the rest is history. Almost five years later we live in sunny California with our two dogs and more in love everyday. I gotta say that I really feel like I hit the jackpot with him!

So here is to a day full of love and reminding those around you how much they mean to you

XOXOXO,

Priscilla

You Are NOT Perfect And Neither Am I

Hey guys! Welcome to me almost every day after work - chilling in my living room, shoes off, covered in dog hair, glasses on, glass full with cheap wine and potentially a little chocolate treat that I have left over from the last holiday. It is not some big party, chatting with a celeb or walking on the beach like my "perfect" Instagram life might show you and I am actually really okay with that!

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you are not perfect and that is okay. None of us are perfect and never will be. Don't worry this is a good thing. That is what makes us...us. If this comes as a surprise to you, you should actually feel some relief. Believe me, I had to learn this too. I am one of those people that is a self described perfectionist that has never been perfect at anything in my entire life. I have always felt I was good at a lot of things but never great or perfect at anything! That is why I have always had the mindset that if I am not doing something at 110% percent I should not be doing it at all because it simply will not be good enough. This often leaves me feeling super overwhelmed and super unworthy of a lot of things that come my way. Have you ever felt the same way? Well, I have recently been reading some really great self help books, as I have mentioned before, and come to the realization (your gonna like this) that we are not alone. *insert applause here*

I think that in the society that we live in today it is so easy to get sucked into feeling the need to be “perfect”. It is no surprise that we feel this way either because we are constantly comparing ourselves to the Instagram perfect lifestyle someone we have never met is living. In reality they are doing the same thing and it is a never ending cycle that is almost impossible to break. This is the reality of the world we live in today, but doesn’t have to be the way you live!

Let me be the first one to tell you it is all going to be okay if you are not perfect. Life will go on. The only thing that you can do is be the best you. Know that even if you mess up, it is okay - life will in fact go on! Everyday that you wake up is a gift for you to live a life of purpose and happiness for yourself. Be the person that you want to be and never let anyone tell you that you have to be otherwise. Stay true to yourself and never try to be someone else idea of perfect.

Can I get an amen?! Now go pour yourself a glass of wine...you deserve it:)

Believe | Words I Live By + How I Got My First Job

Hey guys!! Thanks so much for tuning in for another edition of "Words I Live By". Today I am explaining how this one simple word (believe) has changed my life and continues to change my life everyday! I hope that this one little word can do for you what it did for me :)
52 She Believed She Could So She Did, Printable Art, Inspirational Print, Typography Quote, Wall Art, Inspirational Quote, nursery art
"She believed she could, so she did" is one of my all time favorite quotes.

Believing comes in many different forms.  You can believe in others. You can believe something is going to happen. However, most importantly, you can believe in yourself.

Let's not get things twisted - believing is not a magic power to make things happen. You have to couple it with MOTIVATION + DEDICATION (both words to come in a post) and sprinkle in some good timing. This is when the magic happens and your dreams start to become your reality. Really...I am not making this up!

I get asked a lot about how I got my first job in Los Angeles. Honestly, the above is the exact formula I used. I always knew that I wanted to work in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles since I was younger and made it a goal of mine to get out here as soon as I possibly could. I really believed that I could make it happen...

STORY TIME:
My last semester in college I accepted an internship with 'Good Morning Texas' in Dallas to start the summer after graduation. In the mean time I was still applying for internships in Los Angeles (like a few a week for months)! Although the internship with 'Good Morning Texas' was amazing, I was dead set on getting an internship in Los Angeles and really believed that it would happen. However...NOTHING was happening and I was getting NO responses. I started to feel really down on myself ,but knew that I had the internship with 'Good Morning Texas' to fall back on. The internship that I really had my eye on in Los Angeles was one with the 'Television Academy Foundation' which I had already made it through the first round of the application process. I was super hopeful, but then I got an e-mail telling  me that they had picked another person...I was devastated...literally cried my eyes out. Although it was a super big let down I didn't let it get me down for long. The week after my boyfriend and I were on a graduation celebration cruise celebrating life and what I had accomplished during college. (HERE IS WHEN THINGS CHANGED) After we had the most amazing time on a vacation we will both never forget...I turned my phone back on. I am not even kidding when I say we were literally still on the boat when I turned my phone on and I had two missed voice mails from Los Angeles. Shaking, I listened to a voice mail from the Television Academy telling me that the person who beat me out for the internship at Extra no longer could do it. I was FREAKING OUT! They told me I needed to call them back ASAP and let them know if I was still interested. It was a no brainier for me and I immediately started making plans to move across the country. Now over a year later I am the executive assistant and freelance field producer at Extra in Los Angeles, CA!

I believe that all of this happened for a reason and I believe that I am right where I am supposed to be.

The biggest thing I learned in this journey is to love yourself, love others and dream BIG!

Do you believe?

'You Are A Badass'| Book Review

One of my new years resolutions this year was to start reading more....well (let's be honest) it was to actually start reading anything at all! I have never had an attention span long enough to start and finish a book within a reasonable amount of time. I always get bored and put it to the way side, so I knew if I actually wanted to accomplish this resolution I was going to have to get my hands on some damn good reads. I started this mission by ordering the New York Times best seller, 'Girl Boss'. It seemed right up my ally and IT WAS. It was an amazing book that I totally recommend for a new reader like me or someone in need of a little real life inspiration. I mean it had to be good to keep my attention - you can take that to the bank!

After reading 'Girl Boss' I was on a mission to continue with my new year's resolution and keep reading! I posted on social media and asked you guys what I should get my hands on next...that is where 'You Are A Badass' comes into play. I will go ahead and thank you now, because it was just what I needed. Here are some of my biggest take away's from the book and why I really loved it...

  1. The book focuses on trusting the Universe (or God) but lets you decide.
  2. The book forces you to put yourself in charge of your life again. It explains how you are the one that decides what happens in your own life. Of course, you cannot control EVERYTHING that happens to you, but you can control what you want to want
  3. I learned the importance of a image board. Jen (the author) explains this as visually telling yourself exactly what you want in your life. It trains your brain to believe and know that anything is possible.
  4. Each bite sized chapter has numbered tips on how to accomplish each "how to" and always ends with a tip that tells you to love yourself. I really loved this detail in the book because loving yourself is truly such a major key to happiness.
  5. She has a chapter about meditation that I really loved and needed. I feel like sometimes it is so easy to fall into a fast paced routine while trying to be a "bad ass". It is often hard to find time to live in the moment and appreciate the little blessings in life. Take the time to believe in yourself and love yourself.

Other great feature of this book were all of the great quotes!! Each chapter begins with a corresponding quote to what you will be reading about next. Here are some of my favorite ones that really stuck with me....
"You are a victim of the rules you live by" - Jenny Holzer
"Most people are living in an illusion based on someone else's beliefs"- book quote
"Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are" - Kurt Cobain
"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not" - Andre Gide
"What you choose to focus on becomes your reality" - book quote
"Surrender to what is. Say "Yes" to life and see how life suddenly starts working for you, rather than against you." - Eckhart Tolle

I would overall say that this is an awesome book for anyone who is ready to take charge of their own life. It is also great for the person that needs just a little more direction on how to live every moment of their life the way they want and achieve the highest success. This book delivers important life messages in fun and digestible way that is easy to translate to your own life. I loved it and hope you will too!!

What should I read next?

Ready, Set and GO!

Patience | Words I Live By

Hey guys! Hope that you are having a wonderful week. Today I really wanted to dig deep into the one of the words that I struggle with but am actively trying to live life by - Patience! Have you heard of it? I mean if you know me, you know that I am probably one of the least patient people in the whole world (thanks, dad)!! However, I thought it was important to talk about the significance of it and how it can change your life for the better - helping you to be happy in whatever moment in life you are in (without forgetting where you want to be)!

I write this post today in a kinda therapeutic way. I write this in a way of self healing and hope that I can relate to some of you guys out there as well. I know that I am not alone when I talk about post grad depression. It is a real thing people!! Luckily - I am making my way out of it!! I think that college is a huge tease for what the "real world" is like. During college you get swept up in a wide variety of events/classes/work/social life that are literally put right in front of your face to keep you busy constantly. You are constantly told to think about your future and about the job that you should be looking for AT LEAST six months before your graduation. The amount that is expected out of us in these four crazy years is pretty insane. We are expected to BE professionals but get a reality check when we are not getting to BE professionals right out of college (I am getting to a point here - I promise!) Take this definition in for a second...

I think that the word "tolerate" is what really gets to me in this definition. I never wanted to be one to "tolerate" something - I want to see what I want and go at it full force until I achieve it! I don't want to "tolerate" something! I am a person that when I know what I want, I want it all NOW (can anyone else relate?!). Although, I think my attitude hasn't changed, my knowledge and respect for timing has grown! Believe me, I still have my days where I feel totally defeated and like everyone around me is advancing at much faster rates than me, but I try to tell myself to be patient and trust in the timing. When I get myself to actually do this, I realize that I am so much more happy and at peace! BELIEVE ME, I (more than most) know that this is easier said than done. To be patient doesn't mean that you are "tolerating" or "putting up" with something - it means that you are trusting the timing that the universe has given you.

Right now I find myself constantly contemplating where my journey should go next and struggling to find the answer easily. I know what I want, but find it difficult to achieve my next step with grace. This has been giving me a lot of frustration, but I know I have to depend on my patience to get me through. This doesn't mean I will lose sight of my goals or not work as hard to achieve them...it just means I will be patient and the timing will follow. I hope that if you are going through something like this, you will trust in the timing and be patient too!

Trust in your timing and happiness will follow!

XOXO, Priscilla

Kindness | Words I Live By

Hey guys! I decided to start a new series called ''Words I Live By", but let me start out by explaining what the heck this is. I feel that we (I) go through our day to day lives not realizing the energy that we are putting out into the world, ultimately shaping the perception of how other people view  us. While I do agree that we shouldn't base our lives on what other people think about us, I do think we should stop and think about how we can positively give off energy to affect how we feel about ourselves. This intern putting us in charge of how other people see us....not how they think we are! This little series will highlight words each week that I try to live my life by. I am eager to hear what you guys think and connect!! Too deep? No worries, let's just dive right in!

Today I wanted to start with one of the number one words I try to live by everyday...KINDNESS! While this may seem kinda simple, let's take a moment and dig deeper....

Image result for kindness definition
This one simple word can do so many things. It can change someones day, save someones life and form relationships within seconds. It is truly an incredible thing! I think that kindness is really something that we all have inside of us and something that we can share with people every single day! With everything going on in the world today (it can get a little cray cray at times) each one of us [together] can take over the world. I hate for people to ever think that their words or actions are not valuable, because (WOAH) they really are! The fact that one single action can change someones life FOREVER is something that we should all be aware of. Take this for example: You know how you always remember the people who go out of their way to do something nice for you; (ie) asking how you are doing (and really meaning it), holding the door open for you, handwritten thank you card ? Okay, well...those are the people that are trying to live a life of kindness. Each day reflect on these people and slowing start to create your close inner circle. I like to surround myself with kind people..no brainer right? Well, just like we are what we eat..(cough cough...doughnut, pizza, avocado..) we are who we surround ourselves with too. If you feel like KINDNESS is a way that you want to live your life, surround yourself with kind people and the rest will follow! it is just as simple as that. Do all things with kindness and the world will be yours!

How do you live a life of kindness? Let me know and let's be friends(:
XOXO, Priss

An Open Letter To The Recent College Grad

Dear Recent College Grad,

First things first, CONGRATS! You have just completed a task that many never even set out to do. Although you want to take in the moment and savor the hard work that you just put into the past four years of your life, that may seem hard at first. Everyone around you is focused on anything but that. The only question that anyone can seem to ask you is what you are going to do next (am I right?). I am here to tell you that it is okay to not know - BREATHE! This is such a crucial time for you to really reflect on what you really want for your life and figuring out how to accomplish that in the best way possible. I think that one of the most important things to remember during this time of your life is that YOU make the rules and YOU are the one that gets to create your own destiny. You need to train your brain from the very beginning that you deserve what ever your wildest/crazy dreams are. However, it is also important to understand that while working towards those dreams of yours you WILL have to do some things that are defiantly not on the top of your to-do list. This is what they call "paying your dues". Although this stage of your budding career may seem a little pointless, remember that every single person who has had an amazing career like you WILL have has had these moments too. Take time to learn something from every experience you have and make the best out of every situation.

"Be bold enough to use your voice,
Brave enough to listen to your heart,
and strong enough to live the life you always imagined"

I think that college allows you to find your inner bad ass. Everything after that is showing everyone else how much of a bad ass you really are. However, do not be mistaken, convincing others of these bad ass qualities you have can sometimes be challenging. PLEASE remember in these times that you are not the only one who struggles with this post grad life. NEVER let anyone break your spirit - YOU ARE WORTH YOUR DREAMS. There is not a single person out there that has the right to tell you that you are not good enough, because in the end we are all just people (weird concept, I know)!

The one rule that you must always remember as you now conquer the world, kindness always wins. No matter what business you go into, this is one concept that is universal and will always put you ahead - trust me! Kindness, patience and motivation are KEY.

You have made it this far, so you must be doing something right. Believe in yourself and keep kicking ass!

Priscilla

OKAY - this place is SO cool and such a fun spot to hit up with your crew to be entertained all day or all night (heck - maybe even both). The first time I went to this brewery was on a Saturday night, and it was crazy busy. I was kinda worried because when you see a long long just to get in a place that usually means that you are going to be crammed inside and never get a drink (you know what I am talking about). HOWEVER, I was completely wrong!!! The brewery is pretty much always busy, but there is no need to worry about feeling cramped - it is HUGE. They have two large areas with seating, an upstairs area that overlooks everything and a large area outside lot that usually has a food truck selling all kinds of yummy bites. The only downside about the outdoor area is that you can't bring your beer (boooo!).

**Outside food is welcome, and there are a number of great locations in the neighborhood that offer take out too**

They also have a wide assortment of beers and an awesome FREE tour where you get to try them all out. I really liked this because you can decide what your fav is before even spending a dime!

If you are looking to explore LA and check out what this amazing city has to offer, go ahead and put Angel City Brewery on your bucket list...I promise you won't be disappointed!

EXPLORE | Yosemite National Park

(Left: El Capitan | Right: Bridalveil Fall)

(Above: El Capitan)

Yosemite National Park, in the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges in California, is one of the most well known National Parks in the United States AND one of the most beautiful! Just 4 1/2 north of Los Angeles this National Park NEEDS to be on your summer vacation bucket list.

I recently visited this beautiful park with my boyfriend and we were seriously blown away by the tranquility that it put us both in. We ended up camping at Wawona campgrounds, which is one of the few "first come, first serve" campgrounds in the park October through March. Most of the other's are reportedly booked up to five months in advance, so we made sure that we got there early enough to find a space for the night since it was 'first come, first serve' when we visited. We were so lucky because we did end up getting one of the last spots available (see pic directly above) and arrived at 10:00 am. Our site was equipped with a picnic table, fire pit and parking spot right next to the water under a canopy of towering pine tree's.

As for the other things to do in the area with you time - the list is really endless and depends on the time you have to spend there. Please, watch my video below and see the links below to start planning your personal trip of a lifetime to this BEAUTIFUL oasis.
